Big Country Bash

Part of my birthday present from Mike were tickets to the Big Country Bash in Des Moines yesterday. We were at the outdoors concert from 11 am until 9 pm....LONG DAY!! It was a blast- we went with a bunch of our friends from Des Moines and a few from Portsmouth. Luckily it wasn't as hot as its been lately but it was still pretty hot. I am paying for my sunburn today..OUCH!

Someone has been keeping me busy...

And that would be this guy! He has been crawling (more like doing the worm move) everywhere...and fast. He is letting me know where we still need to baby proof, that is for sure. His favorite spot to get into is the entertainment center- the glass doors seem like so much fun.
This morning I was getting his bottle ready and he made his way from the living room to the kitchen for the first time. He found out he couldn't move on that tile like he can on the carpet :)

7 Months, Parade, & Father's Day

June 19th Colton turned 7 months old and it seems time is just flying by! Mike stepped on the scale with him and Colton weighed in at a hefty 22 lbs. He still just has the 3 teeth but his top ones are so swollen- should be coming through soon! I just love his little plaid shorts :)
Saturday was the 125th celebration of a town near here. Mike rode on the fire truck and sprayed people in the parade so Colton and I went to watch with his family. Colton was a little trooper and made it through the whole thing (which was pretty long!!) He got pretty tired and eventually fell asleep on Grandpa. We made it through the parade mostly dry. Mike tried to squirt us all and ended up just getting his Mom...what a nice son!
Tired boy....trying to crawl around on the blanket w/Aunt Julie

Yesterday we celebrated Mike's first Father's Day. Colton and I gave him a fire pit for the backyard and he ended up putting it together while we filled up Colton's pool. Since his baseball game was cancelled we went to grill out w/some people from town and then came home around 10:30 to crash after a busy weekend!

And we are home :)

We've had a busy last week!! Colton and I headed to my parent's house in Marshalltown Sunday morning. My dad went out of town on a week long fishing trip, so we went to keep my mom company until we headed home this morning. Sunday we watched my brother's softball tourney all day- Colton was SO good! We were there for about 6 games total. We got to see my grandparents and my other grandpa and aunt while back, so lots of family time and lots of shopping. It was a busy 4 days...I think my mom was worn out :)
It's finally feeling like summer here...got out the pool again today and the little guy LOVED splashing around!

The ONLY picture I took at my parents house...I forgot the battery charger for the camera. This was taken w/my cell phone so not the best quality.

The many faces of Colton

It was raining all afternoon yesterday so we hung out inside. Colton decided to show off his many funny faces...
You can see his 3rd tooth here. (Bottom right)

Before I was a mom...

Before I was a Mom, I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom, I had never been puked on. Pooped on. Chewed on. Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts. I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom, I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests. Or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a Mom, I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put him down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a Mom.
Before I was a Mom, I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.
Before I was a Mom, I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom. I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a Mom .

More teeth!

Happy Monday!
Looks like it is going to be a gloomy day with no sunshine...maybe these pictures will help brighten it up a little :)
Colton has started copying us when we scrunch up our faces and huff. I tried to get a video of him doing it but every time you get the camera out, he just wants to smile at you--which isn't a bad thing! At least I caught a few pictures of him doing it... Mr. Music man playing with his bongos

So serious...

Ahh more teeth! Colton hasn't been sleeping well lately and drooling EVERYWHERE -please excuse the wet shirts in about every picture! Saturday I noticed a tooth popping through next to his bottom two. Then on top he is getting two as well- still not the top two, but one on each side of the top two. So, the poor little guy is getting 3 right now. He is going to look like a Halloween pumpkin pretty soon with all these random teeth coming in! :)

Other than working on those teeth, he has been such a happy boy. Loves making lots of noise and moving all around the living room. He is getting so close to crawling- he sort of looks like a little worm. He gets up on his knees, slides forward, goes back down and does the same thing all over again. And boy- he is showing his little temper when he can't get where he wants to. I think he will be keeping us pretty busy this summer!!
